From the outset, the Fund has been offering training workshops and courses designed to enhance young people's knowledge and provide practical skills in specific areas of music.
The first workshops the Fund organised was a programme of online workshops on songwriting, led by one of Scotland’s leading young song writers, Yvonne Lyon. The LCMF Songwriting Workshops with Yvonne Lyon were held over three weeks with a combination of group workshops and one-to-one sessions the tutor gave t5o each participant.
In 2022, the Fund began to formulat eplans for a new, innovative training workshop to provide a unique opportunity for young people to get 'hands on experience of live event production (sound, lighting, stage crewing and event management).
The workshops' concept was to bring together local live event production professionals in sound, lighting, stage crew, event management, etc., with three experienced live bands to create an environment for trainee technicians to get hands-on experience working with professionals in a real-world setting at a "mock concert".
.
'Setting the Stage' launched in June 2023, .This innovative event involving 20 trainees was an instant success as feedback from staff and trainees alike showed. A second 'Setting the Stage II' workshop was held in March 2024.
